A brilliant premise that somehow became a dull evening. The idea of weaving magic into the set changes and transitions was clever and occasionally came close to working, but overall the production felt clunky and underwritten. Too many moments seemed to get lost rather than properly landed, which made the stage feel enormous and the show strangely small. I’ve loved David Haig in plenty of other things, which made this more disappointing. There were good ideas everywhere, but for me they never quite came together.
