An impressive production and entertaining enough, even if I never completely connected with it. Steve Coogan switching between roles was the main thing I remember, particularly the clever ways they got him on and off stage, and there was some brilliant stage trickery throughout. It sometimes felt more like an ambitious project Coogan really wanted to pull off than something built purely for the audience’s enjoyment. A lot of entertaining nonsense, but it also felt slightly like a historical curiosity rather than something especially urgent or relevant.
