A Little Inquest Into What We Are All Doing Here
A show cancelled while still in rehearsal becomes the starting point for an argument about censorship, performance and what theatre is allowed to do.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
The piece begins with a real 2022 production that was cancelled before audiences saw it. Blending autobiography and fiction, it looks at the demand for that unseen work to remain unseen and uses the incident to question censorship, freedom of expression and the limits placed on performance.
Part autobiography and part fiction, the play turns its own theatrical history into the subject, asking what performance is for and what people are willing to defend.
metatheatre, debates about censorship, autobiographical performance and plays that question the purpose of theatre itself.
