Stephanie Street’s new play tells the story of Noor-un-Nisa Inayat Khan, the first female radio operator sent undercover into France by Britain’s Special Operations Executive. Beginning with her capture in 1943, it looks back through the life that led her from a spiritual upbringing and musical ambitions to resistance work in Nazi-occupied France.
A historically grounded wartime drama built around interrogation, memory and Noor’s inner life rather than a conventional espionage adventure. Priyanga Burford leads an ensemble production directed by Elin Schofield, moving between Noor’s imprisonment, her training and relationships, and the experiences that shaped her decision to remain in France despite the danger.
