Affluenza
A teenager's drunken car ride ends in devastation, and the family's wealth becomes central to the question of accountability.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
The story
In the wealthy Hamptons, a teenager faces the consequences of a devastating incident involving a drunken car ride. As the case reaches the justice system, an extraordinary defence raises the possibility that extreme privilege might diminish someone's understanding of right and wrong. Inspired by real events, Andy Sandberg's play examines how family wealth, inherited privilege and the law intersect when serious harm has been done.
In the room
A drama built around a legal argument that challenges conventional ideas of responsibility. The play uses the consequences of one incident to examine the wider influence of money, family and social position.
Good fit if you like
