The story
Patrick Bateman is a wealthy young investment banker in late-1980s Manhattan, consumed by status, possessions and the approval of equally competitive colleagues. Beneath his polished routines he is secretly a serial killer, and the musical follows the widening gap between his carefully managed public image and an inner life of escalating brutality.
In the room
Duncan Sheik's electronic score channels 1980s pop and club music, while the satire treats consumer brands, corporate conformity and violence as parts of the same dehumanising culture.
