An exiled young woman tests love in disguise.
Driven from court, Rosalind escapes to the Forest of Arden disguised as a young man called Ganymede, accompanied by her cousin Celia. There she encounters Orlando, who loves Rosalind without recognising her beneath the disguise. She offers to cure him of his feelings by teaching him how to woo the woman he believes is absent.
Courtly conflict gives way to a woodland comedy of disguise, mistaken attraction, philosophical debate and several contrasting romances, with Rosalind directing much of the emotional confusion.
