The story
Coven is a musical by Rebecca Brewer and Daisy Chute based on the real Pendle witch trials of 1612. As a nine-year-old, Jenet accuses members of her family during a witch hunt. Twenty-one years later, she is herself imprisoned alongside women feared as witches, and their accounts force her to question what she believes about the past and her own part in it.
In the room
The historical story is told through a musical score that includes anthemic songs and strong melodic passages. It places the voices of accused women at the centre of questions about fear, testimony and belief.
Good fit if you like
