The story

The play follows Gareth Southgate’s tenure as England manager, tracing an attempt to reshape the team and the expectations surrounding it. Football becomes a way into questions of leadership, national identity and what success means for a country that invests so much feeling in its national game. The story moves between sporting pressure and the larger idea of England itself.
