Disney's The Lion King
A young lion flees home beneath the weight of his father's death.
Simba is heir to the Pride Lands, but his uncle Scar wants the throne and manipulates the cub after King Mufasa's death. Simba grows up in exile with Timon and Pumbaa, avoiding his past until events at home force him to confront his identity, responsibility and place in the circle of life.
The musical combines songs, choral writing and African-influenced rhythms with an ensemble-led animal world, using masks, puppetry and visible theatrical mechanics rather than trying to disguise its performers.
