Elysium
In the near future, an inventor and his wife grow rich on a government-patented technology that changes the way people behave.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
The story
Set a little way ahead of now, this new play follows an inventor and his wife as the behaviour-altering technology they profit from splits society in two: those who join the movement it creates, and those who refuse to give up their independence. It turns on freedom, shared consciousness and the need to belong.
In the room
A speculative drama in two acts that sees a changing society through the couple at the centre of its new technology, developed alongside Theatre Royal Plymouth.
Good fit if you like
near-future fiction, stories about technology and control, and plays about belonging.
