The story
In 1950s Pittsburgh, Troy Maxson works collecting rubbish while carrying the frustration of a baseball career restricted by racial barriers and age. At home, his son Cory hopes football will offer a different future, but Troy's determination to protect him becomes controlling, placing pressure on his marriage to Rose and the family they have built.
In the room
The drama grows through family conversations, arguments and stories from Troy's past, using the unfinished fence around the home as both a practical task and a shifting emotional boundary.
