Musical
Ghost the Musical
Killed in what looks like a street mugging, a young New York banker finds himself a ghost who cannot leave the woman he loves.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
The story
Adapted by Bruce Joel Rubin from his Oscar-winning screenplay for the 1990 film, the musical follows Sam Wheat, who realises his death was no accident and that his girlfriend Molly, an artist, is now in danger. Unable to touch or speak to her, he finds his only way through is Oda Mae Brown, a storefront psychic and small-time con artist who is shocked to find that she really can hear him.
In the room
A pop-rock score by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard carries love ballads for Sam and Molly and gospel- and soul-tinged comic numbers for Oda Mae, with Unchained Melody from the film woven through.
Good fit if you like
supernatural romance, love stories about grief and letting go, and big pop ballads.
