One theatrical family invites four unsuspecting guests for the weekend.
Each member of the Bliss family independently invites a guest to their country house, without warning anyone else. Retired actress Judith, novelist David and their adult children treat the arrivals as supporting players in their own private dramas, creating a weekend of flirtation, offence and social confusion for visitors who cannot understand the family's rules.
The comedy runs on brittle manners, theatrical posing and rapidly shifting romantic alliances, with the Bliss family's shared performance instinct making ordinary hospitality impossible.
