Musical
Jailhouse Rock
Jailed after a fatal fight, a hot-headed young man discovers in his prison cell that he can sing, and that a crowd will listen.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
The story
Adapted by Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson from the 1957 Elvis Presley film, the musical follows Vince Everett, whose raw voice is discovered by the fading country singer who shares his cell. Released into 1950s America, Vince fights his way into the record business with the help of the promoter Peggy, while his temper, his pride and an exploitative industry threaten the stardom he is chasing.
