In the final days before the crucifixion, Judas becomes alarmed by the direction of Jesus's ministry and the fervour surrounding him. The rock opera follows their conflicting perspectives alongside Mary Magdalene, the disciples and political authorities, presenting sacred events through human doubt, celebrity and power.
The work is sung through in a 1970s rock idiom, using recurring musical motifs, contemporary slang and deliberate anachronism to frame its political and spiritual conflict.
