Matilda Wormwood is a fiercely intelligent girl whose parents dismiss her love of reading and learning. At school she finds an ally in Miss Honey and an enemy in the tyrannical headmistress Miss Trunchbull, while an unusual power gives Matilda a way to challenge the adults who bully and underestimate her.
