Matilda The Musical
A book-loving child discovers her mind can move more than ideas.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
The story
Matilda Wormwood is a fiercely intelligent girl whose parents dismiss her love of reading and learning. At school she finds an ally in Miss Honey and an enemy in the tyrannical headmistress Miss Trunchbull, while an unusual power gives Matilda a way to challenge the adults who bully and underestimate her.
In the room
Tim Minchin's score combines intricate wordplay, child-led ensemble numbers and darker comic songs, while the story celebrates imagination without softening its cruelty or anger.
Good fit if you like
clever child heroes, dark family comedy, wordplay and rebellion against bullying adults.
