A succession of actresses audition for the same role under a charismatic director whose methods become increasingly sinister and destructive.

First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.

Drama
The story

A series of actresses audition to play Nina in The Seagull for a director whose unorthodox methods push them towards emotional and creative extremes. The play turns the audition room into a way of examining why women are repeatedly drawn to a role defined by what men take from her, and how coercion can hide inside artistic authority.

In the room

A meta-theatrical drama structured around repeated auditions, using a fever-dream quality to examine power, coercion and the pursuit of creative expression.

Good fit if you like

meta-theatre, audition-room tension, coercive power dynamics and stories about women in the arts.
