Sophie Pell’s comic two-hander turns Jane Austen’s novel into a play-within-a-play. When the rest of the cast walks out, feuding actors Samantha and Bartholomew are left to perform every character themselves, switching roles as they race through the Dashwoods’ story.
A fast, deliberately chaotic mixture of Austen, farce and backstage rivalry. Madeline Pell and Gareth Balai move rapidly between characters, genders and props, while the pair’s own relationship develops alongside Elinor, Marianne, Edward, Willoughby and the rest of the compressed Austen plot.
