The story
Tim Price's play follows Aneurin 'Nye' Bevan, the Welsh politician whose fight to create the NHS changed British public life. Facing death in hospital, Bevan travels through memories of childhood, mining communities and his years in Parliament. Encounters with Winston Churchill and the obstacles to establishing a national health service form part of a life recalled through a restless imagination.
In the room
This is political biography told through a shifting landscape of memory rather than a straight chronological account. The drama moves between personal recollection and arguments about who healthcare should serve.
Good fit if you like
Welsh history, political arguments and biographies that use memory rather than a simple timeline.
