Oliver Twist, a young orphan raised in a workhouse, is sold into service before running away to London. There he is drawn into Fagin's gang of child pickpockets, while the brutal Bill Sikes and compassionate Nancy pull his life in very different directions as he searches for safety and belonging.
Lionel Bart's score moves between bustling ensemble numbers, comic character songs and darker scenes of poverty and violence, using recurring melodies to bind Oliver's story together.
