The story
Enda Walsh's musical, adapted from John Carney's film with songs by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, follows Guy, who mends vacuum cleaners in his father's shop and is still raw from the girlfriend who left for New York, and Girl, a young mother and pianist living in Dublin. Over a few days she pushes him to take his songs seriously, they borrow money to record and gather a band, and the pull between them grows unspoken.
In the room
An intimate folk-rock musical in which the songs are mostly performed as songs, written, rehearsed, busked and recorded by the characters on guitar, piano, fiddle, mandolin and cello, with some dialogue in Czech.
Good fit if you like
acoustic folk and indie songwriting, understated love stories and Dublin settings.
