The story
Thornton Wilder's play follows the people of Grover's Corners through the routines and milestones of life in their community. Neighbours go to work, children grow up, people fall in love and families change over time. By giving attention to familiar moments rather than grand events, the play asks how much of everyday living people truly notice while it is happening.
In the room
The story takes the long view, allowing repeated routines and the passage of years to gather meaning. Its emphasis is on ordinary human connections and the value of recognising them in the present.
Good fit if you like
small-town communities, stories across generations and plays attentive to the details of daily life.
