The story
A new musical adapted from Stephen Beresford’s film Pride, with a book and lyrics by Beresford and music by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde. It follows Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners as they build a relationship with a Welsh mining community during the miners’ strike.
In the room
A large ensemble story mixing political history, humour and music with the personal relationships at its centre. Matthew Warchus directs a story that moves between 1980s London and South Wales, following the suspicion, friendship and solidarity that develop as the two groups get to know one another.
Good fit if you like
big-hearted ensemble musicals, modern British history, stories about unlikely communities finding common ground, and shows that balance politics with comedy and emotion.
