Quartet in Autumn
Four co-workers approach retirement in 1970s London, held together by routine even as each drifts towards a different kind of solitude.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
Marcia, Letty, Edwin and Norman are co-workers approaching retirement in 1970s London. Marcia hoards tinned food and withdraws, Letty imagines another life, widowed Edwin turns to the church, and Norman resents the modern world. Their daily rituals form a fragile compact as the seasons pass and the prospect of retirement exposes how much, and how little, they depend on one another.
An ensemble character study adapted from a novel, attentive to routine, ageing, loneliness and dry humour rather than driven by a large external plot.
quiet ensemble drama, ageing, everyday rituals and dry observational humour.
