Robin Hood
Robin Hood trades Sherwood Forest for Stratford in an East London panto about taking from the rich and looking after your own.
Yolanda Mercy’s new version of Robin Hood brings the outlaw and their Merry Mandem into present-day E15, moving through streets, stations, shops and estates rather than medieval Nottingham. Directed by Jade Lewis for Stratford East, it turns the familiar folk tale into a story about community, inequality and standing together.
A family Christmas panto rooted firmly in its neighbourhood, with local jokes, Central line references, colourful sets and costumes and broad comedy alongside the Robin Hood story. The language and setting are contemporary, but the basic pleasures are traditional: heroes, villains, a gang of outsiders and plenty of audience-friendly fun.
