The story

This musical memoir centres Sappho as a poet, queer icon and early songwriter, tracing a woman who loves, dreams and creates against the limits placed around her. Hayley Canham’s piece presents her life as part of a longer history of women insisting on artistic and emotional freedom.

In the room

The fifty-five-minute piece uses a memoir structure and music to frame Sappho’s story through love, creativity and defiance rather than as a conventional historical biography.

Good fit if you like

musical memoirs, queer history, women artists and ancient-world subjects.
