The story

Jonathan Moore's play follows Robert Southwell, the most celebrated poet of his age and a Jesuit priest, after his capture by the notorious Topcliffe. Made to answer under torture for his priesthood, Southwell has to face his own fate and the question of what anyone, and artists above all, owes to the truth when the state turns hostile.

In the room

A historical drama set in Elizabethan England that draws deliberate lines to the present, from censorship and surveillance to religious bigotry and xenophobia.

Good fit if you like
