King Arthur's holy quest repeatedly wanders into theatrical nonsense.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
King Arthur gathers an ill-assorted band of knights and sets out to find the Holy Grail. Their quest is interrupted by absurd enemies, failed heroics, romantic demands and constant awareness that they are characters in a musical, turning Arthurian legend into a chain of jokes about theatre itself.
The score uses Broadway pastiche, deliberately silly songs and fourth-wall breaks, while the plot advances through sketches, running jokes and knowingly cheap solutions.
