SQUID: A Victim Impact Statement

No ratings yet

Arcola Theatre · London · From 11 November

For decades, Johnny Daukes kept making work that pointed towards memories he could not consciously access.

First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.

Drama

The story

Writer and filmmaker Johnny Daukes looks back across more than thirty years of songs, scripts and films that repeatedly returned to the same hidden material. As suppressed memories of childhood abuse begin to surface, those works become evidence of how his mind had preserved experiences he could not remember. The piece traces that reckoning and his search for catharsis.

In the room

A true story told through live music, humour and storytelling, with creative work itself becoming part of the evidence through which memory is recovered.

Good fit if you like

autobiographical theatre, stories about memory, live music and art used as a way of understanding the past.
