A rock band enters a recording studio on the verge of success and discovers that making the album may be easier than staying together.
David Adjmi’s play is set inside a recording studio in 1976, where a fictional Anglo-American band spends months working on the album that could make them famous. Personal relationships, ambition and creative disagreements become inseparable from the music they are trying to make. The production is directed by Daniel Aukin, with original songs by Will Butler.
A detailed, fly-on-the-wall recreation of the recording process, moving between conversations in the control room and songs taking shape in the studio. It is a long ensemble drama interested in the repetitive, frustrating and occasionally exhilarating process of making something together, rather than a conventional jukebox musical.
