Tom Wells adapts Roald Dahl’s story for the stage, following orphan Sophie and the dream-catching, snozzcumber-eating BFG after she is taken from her bed one night. Daniel Evans directs this Royal Shakespeare Company production, which uses puppetry and shifting ideas of scale to bring Giant Country to the stage.
A family production that keeps the book’s mixture of silliness and darker danger. Giant puppets, live music, illusions and changes of scale are central to the staging, alongside Dahl’s invented language and the relationship between Sophie and the BFG.
