An ambitious MP gets his chance at the top just as a family inheritance threatens to bring him down.
Shaan Sahota’s debut play follows Angad Singh, a British Sikh MP who unexpectedly becomes a serious contender to lead his party after his boss resigns in scandal. Meanwhile, his father has died and left Angad an estate that his sisters believe should have been shared, turning a political opportunity into a fight about family, inheritance and who gets to hold power.
Part Westminster comedy and part family drama, with fast political manoeuvring giving way to increasingly personal confrontations. The play draws parallels between hierarchies inside a family and those within British politics, using dark humour to explore ambition, class, gender, cultural expectations and the compromises involved in getting close to power.
