The Gap
A fallen tree opens a journey through North East time.
First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
Inspired by the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree, this musical travels through time to ask why the loss of one landmark affected so many people. With a book and lyrics by Victoria Grimby and music by Stuart Matthew Price, it links the North East’s past and future through shared attachment to place.
The one-hour piece uses musical and time-travelling storytelling rather than a single present-day narrative, treating a real act of destruction as the start of a wider communal reflection.
regional stories, time travel, communal memory and musicals about place.
