First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.
Failing producer Max Bialystock and anxious accountant Leo Bloom discover they could make more money from a theatrical disaster than a success by overselling investment shares. They choose an offensively tasteless musical designed to close immediately, only to find their fraud threatened when audiences respond in the opposite way.
The musical is a broad backstage farce packed with show-business in-jokes, dance breaks, exaggerated stereotypes and songs that parody Broadway's appetite for spectacle.
