The Worst Poets Club

No ratings yet

Hackney Empire · London · From 11 October

Four bestselling poets answer years of being called terrible by sharing the stage, their work and the insult itself.

First Night is a theatre diary for logging the shows you've seen and discovering what to see next.

Comedy
The story

Hollie McNish, Nikita Gill, Donna Ashworth and Len Pennie take the criticism levelled at their work and turn it into the organising idea for a shared live event. Rather than presenting a fictional story, they read from recent and favourite collections, talk together and use the label of being supposedly bad poets as a self-mocking frame for celebrating the writing they continue to make.

In the room

A live poetry-and-conversation format with four writers sharing work, talking together and leaning into the comic absurdity of their hostile critical reputation.

Good fit if you like

live poetry, writer conversations, self-deprecating humour and artists answering criticism on their own terms.
