The story
Christopher Sergel adapts Harper Lee's novel about racial injustice in a small American town. At its centre is Atticus Finch, a lawyer whose compassion and resolve are tested as prejudice shapes the lives of the people around him. The story asks what courage means when the expectations of a community come into conflict with the demands of fairness and conscience.
In the room
The drama connects a community's everyday relationships with the larger question of who receives justice. Its coming-of-age concerns sit alongside a portrait of prejudice and moral responsibility.
Good fit if you like
coming-of-age stories, questions of racial injustice and characters guided by conscience.
