A married couple decide that their relationship might work better with three people in it.
Mike Bartlett’s three-hander follows Polly and Nick, a long-married couple with children and established careers, as they consider inviting the younger Kate into their relationship. Their experiment with polyamory becomes a way of examining marriage, desire, ageing and the assumptions people make about how a relationship is supposed to work.
A dialogue-led contemporary comedy with three characters doing a great deal of negotiating, questioning and saying the uncomfortable thing out loud. Sex and intimacy are discussed explicitly, but the focus is as much on honesty, jealousy, generational differences and changing an established life as it is on the mechanics of a threesome. Expect strong language and adult sexual content.
